Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
Atheneum Academy LLC ("Atheneum Academy," "we," "us," or "our") is a Tennessee limited liability company. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information across our websites — including theatheneum.org — and the About Time platform at abouttime.app (collectively, the "Service").
The short version: We collect what we need to run the Service. We don't sell your data, we don't advertise to your family, and we never share mobile phone numbers or SMS opt-in data with anyone for marketing.
2. Information we collect
- Account information — name, email address, and a password (stored hashed; we never see it).
- Family & education information — the details you enter to organize your homeschool, such as children's names, grade levels, schedules, curricula, planner and logbook entries, filing details, and education-expense records.
- Mobile phone number — if you enable two-factor authentication or subscribe to SMS alerts, we collect the phone number you provide in order to send those messages.
- Technical data — standard information such as IP address, device/browser type, and pages viewed, used to operate, secure, and improve the Service. Server logs are retained for a limited period.
- Payment information — subscription payments are handled by Stripe. We do not receive or store full card numbers.
3. How we use information
- To create and secure your account and provide the Service's features.
- To send transactional and security messages you expect (for example, login verification codes).
- To deliver the SMS alerts you opt into, and the email you choose to receive.
- To process subscriptions and payments through Stripe.
- To prevent fraud and abuse, enforce our Terms, and protect users — including children.
- To maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the Service, and to comply with legal obligations.
4. SMS / mobile messaging
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Phone numbers and SMS opt-in data are used solely to deliver the messages you have requested (account-security codes and alerts you subscribe to) and are never sold.
SMS messaging is entirely opt-in. You opt in inside your About Time account — by turning on two-factor authentication, or by subscribing to law & news alerts. Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of any purchase. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply.
You can opt out of SMS at any time by replying STOP to any message, or by changing your preferences in your account settings. Reply HELP for help. See our Messaging Terms for full details.
5. How we share information
We share information only as needed to run the Service, with providers acting on our behalf, or as required by law. We do not sell your personal information. Key service providers include:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage
- Vercel & Railway — website and backend hosting
- Stripe — payment processing and optional identity verification
- Twilio — SMS delivery (verification codes and opted-in alerts)
- Resend — transactional email
- Anthropic — AI-assisted features (only the feature text you submit; not retained for training)
- Google — optional sign-in (OAuth) and mapping features
These providers receive only the information needed to perform their function. We may also disclose information to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, or protect the rights and safety of our users.
6. Children's information
The Service is designed for parents and guardians, not for children. Children do not create accounts and do not interact with the Service directly. Information about a child is provided by you, the parent or guardian, to organize that child's education. We use it only to provide the Service to you, and we never sell it or use it for advertising. You can review, edit, or delete it at any time.
7. Data security & retention
We use industry-standard safeguards, including encryption in transit, access controls, hashed passwords, and optional multi-factor authentication. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service and meet legal obligations; when you delete content or close your account, we delete or de-identify the associated personal information within a reasonable period, except where we must retain it by law.
8. Your choices
- Access & correction — view and update your account information at any time.
- SMS opt-out — reply STOP to any text, or change preferences in settings.
- Data export & deletion — request a copy or deletion of your data by emailing us.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Policy.
